The state prosecutor proposed a 15-year sentence in a strict-regime penal colony and a fine of 10 million rubles (approx. $111,100 at current rates) for former Troitsk mayor Alexander Vinogradov, accused of taking bribes. This was announced on Thursday, February 5, during the closing arguments in the city court, reported Nataliya Mamayeva, senior assistant prosecutor of the Chelyabinsk region.
Additionally, the prosecutor proposed confiscating a treadmill worth 126,000 rubles (approx. $1,400 at current rates) from the ex-mayor, as well as over 600,000 rubles (approx. $6,700 at current rates) received as bribes, into state ownership.
Security forces arrested the then-incumbent head of Troitsk, Alexander Vinogradov, in December 2023. He was suspected of receiving a bribe in the form of a treadmill. In return, according to the investigation, the mayor was to expedite the issue of a construction permit and commissioning of a non-residential building. The official«s close associates believe this case is »revenge of the security forces« for a previous acquittal.
