Ex-deputy chief of Volzhsky traffic police sentenced for bribe

Dmitry Ivashkin lost his police rank and freedom.
Former deputy head of the Volzhsky District Traffic Police Department in Samara Oblast, Dmitry Ivashkin, was sentenced to seven years in a strict-regime penal colony. The Isaklinsky District Court found him guilty of receiving a large bribe.
According to the investigation, in October 2024, the former police officer received 300,000 rubles (around $3,300 at current rates) from a representative of a transport company. For this money, he was supposed to ensure the unimpeded passage of its trucks through the district — essentially, to turn a blind eye to possible violations.
The prosecutor managed to present irrefutable evidence of guilt to the court. As a result, the judge imposed a harsh punishment: 7 years of imprisonment in a strict-regime colony and an additional fine of 600,000 rubles (around $6,700 at current rates), which is double the amount of the bribe.
In addition, the former police major was stripped of his special rank. He was also banned from holding any positions in law enforcement agencies associated with official authority for five years.
Recall that the criminal case was initiated based on materials provided by the Federal Security Service (FSB) Directorate for Samara Oblast. The suspect was taken into custody during the investigation, which was conducted by investigators from the regional Investigative Committee (SKR).
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed to a higher court.
