The conflict arose from an unsuccessful car resale business. Florist Ruslan I. invested several million rubles in a venture run by Yekaterinburg residents Danil, Kirill, and Anton. The money was spent, but the cars were never purchased.
Kirill gave Ruslan a promissory note for 2.7 million rubles (approximately $30,000 at current rates), offering to repay the debt in installments. However, this did not satisfy the creditor, and he demanded that Danil hand over a new black BMW 525d as collateral. After the refusal, threats began.
About ten individuals of Caucasian appearance with an accent joined the situation. They demanded that Danil sign a fictitious car sale contract, threatening violence. «Where we come from, they kill for such things,» they declared. Also, the phrase was heard: «We will bury you.»
One of the attackers, who introduced himself as Khairulla, got into the BMW and drove away without the owner«s consent. Subsequently, Danil began receiving administrative fines for violations recorded on his car.
A year later, when the debt still had not been repaid, and Ruslan threatened to sell or dismantle the car, Danil contacted the police. The BMW was immediately returned to its legal owner.
A criminal case was initiated against Ruslan under paragraph «b» of part 4 of article 162 of the Russian Criminal Code (robbery). He was taken into custody, although he did not admit guilt, claiming that Danil owed him money as a business partner.
The court dismissed the defendant«s arguments, and the trial will begin soon.
