St. Petersburg Gridlocked in Evening Traffic Jams

On the evening of February 2, road congestion in St. Petersburg reached a maximum of 9 points. Experts note abnormally dense traffic, especially on the Ring Road and Western High-Speed Diameter.

With the onset of the evening rush hour on Tuesday, February 2, the streets of St. Petersburg turned burgundy on the maps of the Yandex.Traffic service. The peak value of 9 points was recorded at 18:09.

This figure exceeded the usual level for an evening Monday by three points. Abnormally dense traffic in the city began even before the official start of the rush hour.

The most difficult situation developed on the southeastern section of the Ring Road, where multi-kilometer jams formed in both directions. Serious traffic jams also arose on the Western High-Speed Diameter. The most problematic points were Vasilyevsky Island, the area of Stachek Avenue, and the southern interchange with the Ring Road.

Major traffic jams were also noted on the following streets and highways:

  • Sophia Street (from Avtozavodskaya Street to Rabochy Proezd),
  • Liteiny Prospekt and bridge, Akademika Lebedeva Street, Lesnoy Prospekt (from Nekrasova Street to 1st Murinsky Prospekt),
  • Nevsky Prospekt, Goncharnaya and Poltavskaya streets, Alexander Nevsky Square and bridge, Zanevsky Prospekt (from Anichkov Bridge to Novocherkassky Prospekt),
  • Tipanova Street, Slavy Prospekt, Nevsky Overpass, Ivanovskaya Street, Volodarsky Bridge (from Lensoveta Street to Oktyabrskaya Embankment),
  • Moskovsky Prospekt (from Zagorodny Prospekt to Blagodatnaya Street).
