Samara Cat with FIV Needs Special Home

Samara volunteers are looking for a home for an affectionate cat named Ariadne. She is only five years old. She is young, active, loves people, but fate has been cruel to her.
“Ariadne was found on the street as a kitten, and when she grew up, she was placed in a shelter. She charms with her coloring and adorable face. But Ariadne has been diagnosed with feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV),” animal rights activists said.
Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) affects only cats. There is no evidence of infection in humans or other animal species from this virus: it is not transmitted to them through blood or saliva. The virus is specific to the cells of the feline immune system, and therefore poses no danger to humans and other domestic and wild animals (except for felines). Owners and children can safely interact with an infected animal — there is no risk of transmission to humans. To date, there is no means that completely cures a cat of FIV. There is no treatment for feline immunodeficiency virus aimed at eliminating its pathogen.
The main task of the owner of an infected pet together with a veterinarian is to maintain the quality and length of the animal«s life, combat symptoms and secondary infections. The primary approach for a cat with FIV becomes supportive therapy. Sometimes antibiotics or antifungal medications are needed, but mostly only supportive therapy is required: vitamins, balanced nutrition.
Such animals should not be taken outside or kept together with healthy pets.
Modern research shows that with proper care and absence of severe concomitant infections, the lifespan of FIV-infected cats is close to that of healthy animals.
Fluffy Ariadne is litter-trained, vaccinated, sterilized, treated for parasites, and tested for major chronic viruses.

“With proper care, in a cozy and kind home environment, cats with this diagnosis can live for many years without getting sick. Only regular check-ups are needed. Just like for people. The disease is successfully controlled. Ariadne is to be placed in a home as the only cat. It is also possible to find a home where the pet has FIV,” volunteers explained.
Ariadne needs to run and play a lot: a small space in a room won«t be enough for her. The kitten may be wary of new people, but it»s easy to win her trust and affection through communication and petting.
“We hope that Ariadne can find a loving and understanding family that she can delight with her cheerfulness and cat songs,” animal rights activists wrote.

The animal is given away only under a responsible ownership agreement.
“Volunteers are always in touch after they give you the kitten, at any time. You can contact the shelter for any consultation. We will recommend trusted clinics, help choose good food and effective medications, or select a skilled groomer. We provide free consultation on animal behavior from our animal psychologist,” added the cat cafe staff.
To meet Ariadne in person and take her home, write to the messages of the cat cafe on VKontakte or to Alexandra Ivanova.
Also looking for a home is special Karisha. This kitten has also had a difficult life.
