Quarantine Imposed Over Pasteurellosis in Transbaikal Settlement

Governor of Zabaykalsky Krai Alexander Osipov has imposed a quarantine within the boundaries of the personal subsidiary farm of a resident of the settlement at Yasnaya station in the Olovyanninsky District of the krai due to pasteurellosis. The corresponding decree by the head of the region was published on a specialized website for legal acts.
Pasteurellosis (hemorrhagic septicemia) is transmitted from animals to humans. It affects cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, many species of wild animals, and all types of domestic and wild birds. The disease is characterized by fever, general intoxication, inflammation of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, and damage to joints, bones, and internal organs.
The quarantine for pasteurellosis is imposed from February 2, 2026. The epizootic focus is located on Station Street (Ulitsa Stantsionnaya) in the settlement. This means that outsiders are forbidden to visit the area of the personal subsidiary farm. Only specialists, including those involved in animal care, may enter — these are employees of the State Veterinary Service of Zabaykalsky Krai (Gosvetsluzhba).
The import and export of animals is prohibited, except for the export of animals without clinical signs characteristic of different types of pasteurellosis.
The State Veterinary Service of the krai told a correspondent of Chita.Ru that their specialists are indeed working in the threatened zone — they have begun clinical examination of susceptible animals and are carrying out necessary preventive measures.
«In addition, it must be reminded that animal owners are obliged to: provide animals for examination to veterinary specialists upon their request; immediately report all cases of sudden death or simultaneous mass illness of animals, as well as unusual behavior; before the arrival of specialists, take measures to isolate animals suspected of being sick,» the press service of the agency noted.
Since autumn, pasteurellosis outbreaks have been detected in several districts of Zabaykalsky Krai. A state of emergency was declared in the Mogoytuy, Zabaykalsky, Onon, and Borzinsky districts. For example, in Borzya, agricultural fairs were banned, and in Mogoytuy, farmers complained about the mass slaughter of livestock, the immediate application of extreme measures without the possibility of treatment, and the concealment of information by local authorities.
The State Veterinary Service indicated that the situation became difficult because the farmers themselves did not take preventive measures to prevent the disease outbreak.
Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) denied rumors of human infection, noting that it is possible with weak immunity.
In Chita, the high alert mode due to the spread of pasteurellosis in animals was lifted three months later in January 2026. As Chita.Ru was told by Deputy Mayor Andrei Grenishin, there was no outbreak of the disease in the city. The introduction of the regime was preventive.
