The Yekaterinburg cat shelter Catsekb, which has been operating for 11 years, is on the verge of shutting down. According to its founder Svetlana Klimova, the organization has accumulated large debts that it cannot cover.
Svetlana Klimova, founder of the Catsekb shelter, has appealed to city residents for financial support.
Over the shelter«s existence, volunteers have managed to save and find new homes for more than a thousand cats, including animals with serious illnesses. However, the project»s future is now in doubt.
«All last year and the year before, we tried to survive and pay off our debts. Unfortunately, we have not fully succeeded. It is very hard to survive from one fundraiser to the next,» said Svetlana Klimova.
The situation worsened after the dogs from the Huskyekb shelter, with whom they had previously shared expenses, left the common territory in Gorny Shchit (settlement near Yekaterinburg). Now the entire financial burden has fallen on Catsekb.
«In addition to veterinary clinics, the main financial burden is paying for electricity and workers in Gorny Shchit. I can either buy food or pay for electricity. Either pay the clinic or pay the workers. You can«t survive like that,» Klimova explained.
If the shelter closes, all the cats in its care will have to urgently find a new home. An alternative could be moving the animals to the Huskyekb territory in Kamensk-Uralsky, which the founder believes would help reduce costs.
To continue its work, Catsekb needs financial support. Funds are required to pay off debts and set up at the new location.
In the past, the shelter«s volunteers have repeatedly saved animals in dire situations, such as a mutilated cat found under the windows of a high-rise building, or pets abandoned in an apartment filled with trash.
