Novosibirsk residents are actively discussing the news about possible fine increases for dog owners. NGS collected opinions from city residents.

‘We practically have no special walking areas, but fines will be imposed,’ noted reader Kirill.

Ekaterina writes about this as well:

‘And what has been done for dog owners? Perhaps every home has a walking area and trash cans? No — it takes at least five minutes to walk to the nearest one with the dog. Sorry, how do you explain to a dog, which has already been holding it for half a day, that it still needs to walk to the spot? Or carry a German shepherd in your arms to the destination?’

‘Most dog owners would only be in favor if they start fining those who don’t clean up after their animals. I, as the owner of a little joy that barks and for whom I carry a roll of bags, can definitely say that people look at me like I’m a fool when I ask someone to clean up after their dog,’ said a female reader.

Elena is convinced that dogs need to be trained and educated:

‘And I find it unpleasant to walk on the sidewalk and see dog marks on the white snow.’

Reader Anastasia noted that attention should also be paid to cigarette butts, packaging, bottles, and other waste that isn’t taken to the trash bin.

In late December, a shelter for homeless animals opened in Novosibirsk. The facility will be able to take in dogs and cats.
