Investigative authorities have initiated a criminal case regarding a fatal collision on the federal highway R-21 «Kola» in Leningrad Oblast. The incident, in which two people died and a child was injured, is classified as a violation of traffic rules resulting in the negligent death of two or more persons.
The tragedy occurred on January 30 at the 183rd kilometer of the road in Volkhovsky District. According to investigators, a 46-year-old female driver of a Mercedes, heading towards Murmansk, while performing an overtaking maneuver, entered the oncoming lane, leading to a head-on collision with a Kia car.
In the foreign-made Kia car, there was a family of three: a 38-year-old man, his 37-year-old wife, and their eight-year-old son. The adult passengers died at the scene from their injuries. The minor boy was hospitalized in serious condition.
Regarding the Mercedes driver, who refused medical assistance, a measure of restraint in the form of an obligation to appear has been imposed.
