January Snow Record; February Start Forecast for Moscow

Moscow«s snow depth reached a record high at the end of January, with accumulations hitting 60 cm.
The FOBOS Center reported that snow depth in Moscow at the end of the month rose to 60 cm (24 in), a record for the last day of January. According to meteorologists« forecasts, precipitation will fall again on Sunday, February 1, but only a little. The cold spell will continue; until February 6, the average air temperature will be 8–12 degrees below normal. It will warm up only at the end of the next work week.
According to the Hydrometeorological Center«s forecast, on the night of February 1, Muscovites can expect light snow and air temperatures of minus 20-22°C (-4 to -8°F); residents of the region — up to minus 25°C (-13°F). In some parts of the Moscow region, a blizzard is possible. During the day in Moscow, minus 16-18°C (3 to 0°F), in the region — minus 16-21°C (3 to -6°F) and icy conditions.
On February 2, we expect cloudiness, a little snow, and temperatures in Moscow of minus 19-21°C (-2 to -6°F) at night, minus 13-15°C (9 to 5°F) during the day. In the region — minus 13-18°C (9 to 0°F).
On February 3 and 4, we also expect a little snow, with temperatures at night minus 20-25°C (-4 to -13°F), and during the day minus 13-18°C (9 to 0°F).
Tatiana Pozdnyakova, chief specialist of the capital«s weather bureau, previously reminded that February is a winter month and its weather is not much different from January»s.
