Dzerzhinsk City Council Deputy Detained in Commercial Bribery Case

Some details have emerged about the case involving detained Dzerzhinsk City Council deputy Yevgeny Monakhov. After meeting with law enforcement, he did not attend a session, and his assistant ignored calls. As reported by Kommersant-Volga Region, other deputies actively inquired about their colleague«s fate even from Mayor Mikhail Klinkov.
The deputy was detained on January 27. Therefore, when Monakhov did not appear at the plenary session of the city council on January 28, his colleagues became concerned. He also did not show up at the office of the company where he works as financial director. It is known that before the start of the session, deputies approached the head of Dzerzhinsk and asked why Monakhov had disappeared.
«I am not the Investigative Committee, so I advised everyone to send inquiries to the appropriate authorities,» answered Mikhail Klinkov.
It is assumed that Monakhov could have been detained in a criminal case related to commercial bribery in the city council elections. Preliminary estimates suggest that the amount of extortion from Dzerzhinsk deputies could reach 50 million rubles (approximately $500,000 at current rates).
In the same case, former executive secretary of the local branch of United Russia in Dzerzhinsk Maria Kilina and political technologist Mikhail Khaluga are also involved.
Moreover, information has appeared that Yury Shakunts, who is part of the United Russia deputy association, is involved in the case. After the investigation began, he wrote a confession and turned into a witness, stating that he indeed transferred money to the technologist. But Shakunts was sure that the amount would go to the United Russia election campaign in Dzerzhinsk and support for budget-funded candidates.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) and the Investigative Committee (SK) have not yet commented on the situation with the detention of deputy Monakhov.
Earlier, we also reported that in Dzerzhinsk, a verdict was issued for the head of the local Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS) department. He was accused of bribery and abuse of power.
