The Kalininsky District Court of Chelyabinsk on 30 January sentenced Alexander Kalituk, former deputy head of the Center for Countering Extremism department. He was found guilty of fraud and sentenced to three years in a general regime penal colony, as well as a fine of 700,000 rubles (about $7,800 at current rates). Additionally, Kalituk was banned from holding state positions for two years. After the verdict was announced, he was immediately taken into custody.
Initially, the criminal prosecution was under the article on mediation in bribery, but later the charges were reclassified to fraud.
The detention occurred on 8 October 2024. According to the investigation, operatives were monitoring Kalituk«s actions before the money transfer. When the deal took place, he noticed FSB officers and tried to flee. During the chase, the suspect damaged at least two cars before being detained. 3.5 million rubles (about $38,900 at current rates) were seized from him. The Investigative Committee released video from the scene.
Alexander Kalituk is the son-in-law of well-known Chelyabinsk developer Sergei Mankevich, being married to his daughter. In some reports, this situation was linked to the delayed commissioning of the «Aloe Pole» residential complex. However, Mankevich denied such assumptions. The criminal case materials mention another developer, as well as issues related to debts.
