Contract killing of Cossack boxer solved in Samara

In Samara, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of the deputy ataman of the Samara District Cossack Society, boxer Andrey Yeremeyev, has been arrested. This was reported by the regional Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia (SKR).

«Charges of organizing a contract killing have been brought against a 55-year-old man,» investigators said.
According to law enforcement, here«s how it happened: from November 2014 to January 2015, the suspect asked an acquaintance to find someone willing to kill his enemy — the deputy ataman of the Samara District Cossack Society. The reward amounted to one million rubles (approximately $11,000 at current rates).
The acquaintance agreed and found the perpetrator and accomplices.
«Together, they devised a plan for the murder and tracked down the victim. On January 26, the perpetrator waited for Yeremeyev near his home and shot him at least three times in the head and torso. Andrey Yeremeyev died at the scene from the injuries,» investigators reconstructed the sequence of events.
The perpetrators were convicted: they were sentenced to strict-regime colony terms ranging from 10 to 15 years.
«However, the identity of the mastermind could not be established for a long time. While working on solving past crimes, investigators and forensic experts together with employees of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (GU MVD) studied suspended criminal cases. Additional investigative actions and operational-search measures helped lead to the alleged mastermind of the killing,» explained the press service of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for Samara Region.
The suspect has been taken into custody.
«Additional forensic examinations and investigative actions are being conducted,» added representatives of the department.
