Chief Physician Oleg Shalaev Arrested in Riazan Bribery Probe

The regional investigative committee continues to investigate a criminal case involving a large bribe accepted by an official from one of the institutions of the Ministry of Health of Riazan Oblast. According to YA62.RU editorial office, the accused is the chief physician of the Riazan Regional Clinical Hospital (RKB), Oleg Shalaev. He has held this position since 2024.
The department had previously reported that the suspect, for money, provided his acquaintance, an entrepreneur, with information about upcoming purchases of medical equipment and materials, thereby helping him win auctions. Through such schemes, the OKB employee could have received 300,000 rubles (approximately $3,300 at current rates).
Now, by the decision of the Sovetsky District Court of Riazan, Oleg Shalaev has been taken into custody. The criminal case continues to gather evidence and search for similar episodes of bribery.
The Riazan Ministry of Health called the incident «part of systemic work to cleanse the regional healthcare system.»
«The regional authorities consistently implement the principle of zero tolerance for corruption. Such actions lead to inevitable punishment,» the ministry«s press service quotes Deputy Minister of Health of the region Alexander Pshennikov.
