Russian Air Defense Downs Over 20 Drones in Four Regions

Russia's air defense forces intercepted 26 aircraft-type drones overnight, with the most intense activity over Bryansk region. Meanwhile, an operation to destroy a rocket warhead is underway in the city of Oryol.

On the night of Saturday, January 31, air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 26 aircraft-type UAVs over four Russian territories. The Bryansk region was hit the hardest, with 17 drones shot down there. Another seven unmanned aerial vehicles were eliminated over the Smolensk region and one each over the Belgorod region and Crimea.

In the Voronezh region, the operational situation is calm at the time of publication. However, the day before, on January 30, a missile danger alert was declared throughout the region and sirens were activated. The UAV attack danger regime was last introduced on the evening of January 28, and in the morning, Governor Alexander Gusev reported the destruction of a drone over one of the districts. During an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Voronezh region on the night of January 28, petroleum products caught fire.

Meanwhile, in Oryol, an operation is underway to destroy a part of a rocket«s warhead that was discovered within the city on January 26. The activities began at 08:30. People were evacuated within a radius of 500 meters (about 1,640 feet) from the location of the explosive item. Four streets partially and three completely fell into this zone, as well as five garden non-commercial partnerships (SNT). In addition, traffic and pedestrian movement were restricted on sections of five streets. According to local governor Andrei Klychkov, the explosive will be extracted from the ground, transported to a safe location—away from populated areas—and detonated.
