Volgograd residents oppose KPRF leader's city renaming call

After Gennady Zyuganov«s loud statement that he expects Volgograd to be renamed by the end of this year and that most of the population already supports his initiative, Volgograd residents responded to Russia»s main communist. Amid dissatisfaction with the renaming idea, only a few support the return of the name «Stalingrad». We have collected the most vivid opinions.
The majority agree that only those who live in the city should decide its name«s fate. Moreover, according to V1.RU readers, Volgograd and the entire country have much more pressing tasks.
— Wouldn«t the good gentleman like to advocate for increasing pensions by the percentage of actual inflation, not made-up? And wouldn»t he like to address the issue that every day the packaging of cereals, dairy products, and butter is shrinking, plus the price is rising? No? He doesn«t want to? Is renaming what worries him most? But he doesn»t live here. Or is he planning to move to the legendary city permanently?
In response to Gennady Zyuganov«s serious desire to see Volgograd renamed, many began to joke and suggest renaming the politician himself. Someone even compiled a selection of Soviet variants.
— Choose. Vilivs — from the initials of the name, patronymic, and surname Vladimir Ilyich Lenin and Iosif Vissarionovich Stalin. Dalis — from the abbreviation of the slogan «Long live Lenin and Stalin!» Lestak — from the abbreviation of the slogan «Lenin, Stalin, communism!» Marenlenst — from the first letters of the surnames Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin. Maels — from the first letters of the surnames Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin. Maenlest — from the first letters of the surnames Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin. Staliv — from the abbreviation of the surname and initials Stalin I.V..
If Volgograd is to be renamed, then, according to V1.RU readers, other cities should have their names changed too. They suggest starting with the Northern capital.
— The whole world knows about the Leningrad Blockade — then St. Petersburg should also be renamed to Leningrad, because they have the city of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Oblast. Moreover, the city was Leningrad longer than Volgograd was Stalingrad.
Someone noted that renaming would have serious consequences. First of all, it«s paperwork and bureaucracy.
— How persistent he is! He just can«t calm down with this issue. It»s for us to decide, not Zyuganov. Does he have a lot of money? How much is needed to change all the documents just for people, and it«s not just passports… Didn»t he think about that? And what will change? Will we live better? I deeply doubt that…
Recently, Karen Shakhnazarov also spoke out against renaming Volgograd. Then the director noted that this issue does not unite the people at all, but on the contrary, causes pain and sows enmity. Many agreed with this opinion.
— What is he going to explain to people? The self-confidence of people who know nothing about their own people always amazes me. There«s no need to explain anything to people living in the country: they see everything with their own eyes and understand that renaming will not consolidate but divide people. You can»t step into the same river twice! VOLGOGRAD!
Volgograd residents fear not being heard, as they see no real leverage to influence those promoting such ideas.
— We no longer understand, no explanations will ever be enough for us. A ruinous stupidity, associated with foolish spending of financial resources at all levels, wasting personal and official time on a deliberately worthless result for the main part of the population, will never be approved by us. But, alas, our people will endure this violence steadfastly and without indignation, because we have no real leverage to influence such initiatives. So Muscovites, they have fun even in Africa, and wish for Stalingrad. And we approve, of course, publicly, but only in our kitchens at home will we speak out, as usual.
Those who were born in Stalingrad also spoke out. It turned out that they don«t need the renaming either, nor the extra hassle with changing documents.
— There was a real problem with switching clock hands and entering a foreign Moscow time zone, and how and by whom was it solved? And here«s the same story. They in Moscow know better how and where to spend budget, personal money of the population, and entrepreneurs» funds. But I remembered my place of birth — Stalingrad, in my passport it says Volgograd, and I didn«t suffer or run around with a request to restore the correct place of birth. I»m already a pensioner, and I«ll have to change my passport, and I don»t need that anymore. There are real problems that need attention and the funds that will be spent on this fuss. When will we finally stop bowing to foreigners? We don«t need this, but tourists, strangers, far from our life, need to be pleased.
However, out of hundreds of negative comments, one can find a couple of those who support Gennady Zyuganov and his idea of renaming the city.
— Finally, let«s wash away this cursed name Volgograd and return the strength of Stalingrad, — said one of V1.RU readers.
Earlier, Vyacheslav Volodin spoke out towards representatives of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF). Then he reminded that it was during the USSR, when there was only one party, the CPSU, that Stalingrad was renamed to Volgograd.
«They took, named Tsaritsyn Stalingrad, and then also renamed it. Who did it? Keep quiet! You did it yourself. And now you say «return»! Why did you rename it? Did you become disillusioned with Stalin«s role? Did you condemn him? Well then, stick to that line! But if you have reconsidered this role, then repent», — Interfax agency quotes the State Duma speaker.
