Internet Outages Disrupt Life in Tyumen

Mobile operators in Tyumen provide inconsistent service, with connectivity issues affecting various daily activities.
Residents of Tyumen continue to complain about cellular service issues. According to locals, mobile internet in the city is unstable, and even voice calls for many users are often interrupted. The outages have significantly impacted daily life.
How to pay for parking?
Many drivers are facing the problem of paying for parking in the city. Recently in Tyumen, paid parking lots have been increasing, and ignoring payment is not an option — it risks a large fine. Some prefer not to risk it and simply don«t park in the central area.
«Parking in the center, there was no internet, I couldn«t park», — shares Dmitry.
«The parking app isn«t loading, and inspectors are walking around, taking photos. What to do in this case?» — wonders Yevgenia.
It turns out this problem can be solved by paying for the parking later, through the city parking website. The main thing is to remember the time and place where you parked the car and make the payment by the end of the day. Otherwise — a fine.
«We only go with cash»
Another problem is paying for goods, services, or even simply public transport fares. Many terminals have SIM cards, and when there are connection issues, they simply don«t work.
«People have started coming with cash for shopping», — writes Svetlana.
«I ordered delivery, but the courier«s terminal wasn»t working — it wasn«t catching a signal. I had to call the manager for 10 minutes to transfer money to them via card number», — shares Ilya.
«Now we only go with cash: sometimes terminals don«t work, sometimes cards, sometimes apps», — says Irina.
«Store apps aren«t loading. For example, «O»key». Couldn«t use the card discount. Can»t log into the «T-Bank» app», — writes Yulia.
«It«s some kind of trick from the authorities: they made a discount for paying fare via QR code, but bank apps don»t work. In the end, you pay either by card or with cash», — writes a reader.
Can«t even leave the yard!
It seems the biggest nuisance for city residents has been disruptions in voice service. People complain that in many areas of the city, calls don«t work — either they don»t go through or they get cut off.
«It«s impossible to talk on the phone in the apartment. Who has good connection specifically in the apartment for calls? Are we installing landline phones again?» — writes reader Marina.
«I can«t drive out of the yard, there»s no signal to call the gate», — writes our reader.
«A few years ago, I exchanged free SMS for additional gigabytes of internet. I was happy. The tariff changed, can«t change back. I spend on messages 150–200 rubles a day (approximately 2–3 USD at current rates)», — complains Nikolai.
What else isn«t working?
According to readers, apps, navigation, and even the new messenger MAX aren«t working.
«It shows full LTE but the apps that were promised to be left aren«t working. Not one, even Max», — complains Elena.
«In polyclinics, computers are crashing out of programs. So much for internet, they put up towers, but no use, zero», — writes Svetlana.
«My mom said today that due to internet problems, it«s become impossible to check at stops how soon transport will arrive, because there»s a QR code. She gets along well with her smartphone. But, she says, in times like these — it«s ridiculous. They should have kept the regular schedule», — fumes Dinara.
After repeated mobile internet outages that started back in summer, Tyumen residents began demanding price reductions for this service or a recalculation. And, as a lawyer believes, they have every right to do so.
On top of everything, in some regions of Russia, Roskomnadzor (the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media) introduced partial restrictions on the operation of messengers WhatsApp (company Meta, extremist organization, activity prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation) and Telegram. As explained by the agency, these measures are aimed at combating criminal activity.
