Krasnoyarsk Businessman Denies Receiving Threats Before Son's Kidnap

Andrei Kaplia is a prominent Krasnoyarsk businessman whose companies have secured large state contracts.
The kidnapping of a 14-year-old boy is not related to the business of his father, prominent Krasnoyarsk businessman Andrei Kaplia. The entrepreneur himself told TASS this.
«No threats have been made to me,» the publication quotes him as saying.
Andrei Kaplia, through deputy Ilya Zaitsev, earlier appealed to Krasnoyarsk residents. The businessman suggested that the kidnappers are holding his son in a rented premises. He asked landlords to check who is in their apartments and houses right now.
Earlier, NGS24.RU wrote that the teenager«s father, Andrei Kaplia, is the »king of state contracts« and one of the richest businessmen in the region. According to the service »Kontur.Fokus,« he owns or manages three firms in Krasnoyarsk. Among them are large ones such as »NBS-Sibir« and »Avtospetsmash.« In 2024, the first firm earned 2.9 billion rubles (approximately $29 million at current rates) with a net profit of 35 million rubles (about $350,000), the second — 4.6 billion rubles (approximately $46 million) with a profit of 73 million rubles (about $730,000) (more recent data is not yet available).
In March 2025, the company «NBS-Sibir» placed ninth in the NGS24.RU rating of «kings of state contracts.» Based on 2024 results, it secured state contracts worth 1.35 billion rubles (approximately $13.5 million at current rates). In the rating of the richest businessmen in the region by «Prospekt Mira,» Kaplia was ranked 58th.

According to the preliminary version of the investigation, on the evening of January 22, the businessman«s son left home in Serebryany Bor (a settlement in Krasnoyarsk) »in an unknown direction with an unknown person.« In the evening, the child»s father was written to in a messenger that his son had been kidnapped and a ransom of 30 million rubles (approximately $300,000 at current rates) was demanded.
Meanwhile, three million rubles (about $30,000) disappeared from safes in the family«s home. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on kidnapping, and the prosecutor»s office began a check. One version is that the teenager became a victim of fraudsters. The child recorded a video appeal to his father.
Investigators found out that before disappearing, the boy left by taxi. The taxi driver«s identity has been established, but where her clients went is still unknown, and there are no other details. One of the residents of the Serebryany Bor settlement named Sergei told journalists that outsiders could not penetrate the territory.
