On January 28, auto expert Oleg Moseev reported in his Telegram channel, citing data from «Avtostat-Info», that there are still nearly 1.2 million «sevens» VAZ-2107 in Russia.
According to Moseev, the longevity of this model is part of a general trend of rapid aging of the entire vehicle fleet. Over 62.53% of vehicles in the country are older than 12 years, which significantly exceeds the figure from ten years ago. At that time, according to the Russian Association of Automobile Dealers (ROAD), the share of such cars was only 48.9%.
President of ROAD Alexei Podshchekoldin cites the increase in the cost of new cars as the reason for the aging. This has led to a shift in buyer interest towards used cars: in 2025, they accounted for 67% of purchases, whereas ten years ago this share was only 41%. There is also a decline in production and sales volumes. To maintain the current structure of the vehicle fleet, it is necessary to produce and sell about 3 million cars annually.
The total number of passenger cars in Russia in 2025 increased by 1.28%, reaching 47.9 million units. The detailed age distribution is as follows:
  • cars 6-7 years old: 7.77%
  • 10-11 years: 7.38%
  • 4-5 years: 6.86%
  • 8-9 years: 6.13%
  • 1-3 years: 5.97%
The origin of cars in the fleet is also changing: the largest share is still held by Russian manufacturers — 30.8%, Japanese cars account for 23%, Korean for 12.4%. The share of Chinese cars increased from 5.9% in June to 6.4% in December 2025.
Production of the VAZ-2107 was finally discontinued in April 2012, when the last unit rolled off the assembly line at the plant in Izhevsk. However, AVTOVAZ had abandoned this model a year earlier.
