Powerful G4 Geomagnetic Storm Expected on January 20

On 20 January, Earth is expected to experience a powerful G4-level geomagnetic storm, which corresponds to an almost maximum degree of magnetic field disturbance. The phenomenon is caused by an intense solar flare, accompanied by a plasma ejection directed straight at our planet.
According to information from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the IKI RAS and the ISZF SB RAS, the storm will begin around 12:00 Moscow Time (MSK). Scientists recorded an X1.95-class flare, which caused a major coronal mass ejection moving precisely toward Earth.
«Data from the CCOR-1 coronagraph today was confirmed by the world«s primary solar coronagraph, LASCO—the X1.95 flare that occurred was accompanied by a major plasma ejection directed exactly at Earth. The preliminary arrival time of the plasma cloud is midday. The initial speed of the plasma at the moment of departure from the Sun was about 2,000 kilometers per second. The expected level of magnetic storms is G3/G4. The lower boundary of the aurora zone is down to 50 degrees,» the specialists clarified.
This means the northern lights may be observed not only in polar regions but also at lower latitudes. At the same time, the magnetic storm could negatively affect the well-being of many people.
Primarily, those sensitive to weather changes will feel the effects. The high-risk group also includes people with cardiovascular diseases, hypertension or hypotension, the elderly, pregnant women, and those suffering from chronic nervous system conditions.
Typical symptoms noted include headaches, general weakness, blood pressure spikes, dizziness, irritability, sleep disturbances, and reduced concentration.
What is important to remember during a magnetic storm
Geomagnetic disturbances are temporary, and their peak usually lasts from several hours to a day. Specialists recommend reducing the load on the body in advance and avoiding overexertion.
On days of high solar activity, one should reduce physical and emotional stress, avoid stress and overwork. It is important to establish a sleep schedule and avoid late-night sessions with gadgets. People with cardiovascular diseases need to monitor their blood pressure and take medications prescribed by their doctor.
They also advise drinking more water, limiting coffee and strong tea consumption, and completely avoiding alcohol. Light walks in the fresh air, simple food, and paying attention to the body«s signals can significantly alleviate one»s condition.
In case of a sudden sharp deterioration in well-being, severe pain in the chest area, or serious blood pressure fluctuations, medics strongly recommend consulting a doctor immediately.
