The story of two Samara women detained in the US after accidentally driving onto a military base has taken a new dramatic turn. Beyond legal issues, they face a personal tragedy: their four cats have been left without food and water in their American rental apartment for nearly a week.

Friends of Natasha and Christina say that five days have passed since the women were detained. No one has access to the apartment where the animals were left, leaving the pets trapped and unattended.

According to the publication SHOT, neither relatives nor friends have been permitted to visit the detained women. Contact with them has been lost. Authorities are verifying the Russians« documents. There is speculation that the women may have had visa issues, which, along with the base incident, could lead to their detention and potential placement in a deportation center.

For one of the women, Natasha, the situation could be particularly dire. Her acquaintances say she was on the verge of obtaining U.S. citizenship, but that chance is now gone. The women risk either up to six months in prison or deportation with an entry ban.

As previously reported, Christina and Natasha were arrested after their GPS led them to the Marine Corps base Camp Pendleton in California while searching for a McDonald«s.

Now, the women«s friends and family are faced with two urgent tasks: securing legal assistance for the detained and finding a way to rescue their abandoned pets on another continent.
