Kazan man reaches Africa in old 'nine', finds fame years later
Timur Shakurov from Kazan drove solo from the capital of Tatarstan to Africa in an old VAZ-2109 car. This was back in 2019, but internet fame came to him only six years after the journey, when he created a blog to tell the story of his trip. We are sharing his story in video format.
The entire journey took Timur 30 days, but he wasn«t aiming to reach his destination in record time.
«I drove at a comfortable pace for myself and wasn»t in a hurry anywhere. If there were any beautiful places, I calmly stopped. If I needed to eat or rest, or refuel, I made such stops,« Shakurov noted.
For his journey, the blogger spent 2 thousand dollars. At today«s exchange rate, that»s approximately 155.8 thousand rubles (about $2,000). To stay within budget, Timur slept in a special tent on the roof of his own car, and spent money mainly on food and fuel.
«I only stopped at campgrounds to take a shower and did a big laundry a couple of times, but I didn»t stay overnight,« he noted.
Timur didn«t initially plan to return by car, so he left his »nine« at the airport in Morocco. There, one of his followers discovered it six years later. Now, the 38-year-old blogger intends to retrieve his »swallow« and set out to conquer America. But first, he needs to buy it back from the impound lot.
«It»s still standing there, although I was sure it had long been disposed of or scrapped for metal. I«ve never pulled off such an adventure of transporting a car from Morocco to the USA. I»ll need to repair it and prepare it for the journey,« Timur shared his new plans.
