The department commented: «The command of the Eastern Military District is conducting an inspection on this issue. If facts of violation of the law are identified, the guilty persons will be held accountable.»
The Defense Ministry has confirmed an ongoing probe into the pressure on conscripts to sign contracts.
The reason for the inspection was an appeal from Miass deputy Anastasia Borisova. She asked the military prosecutor«s office to study the circumstances under which two conscripts — 18-year-old Ivan Morozov and 20-year-old Semyon Sergeyev — were pressured to sign contracts.
The young men were called up for service on December 5, and on December 8 they were sent by train to their deployment location in Ussuriysk. Ivan Morozov recounted what was happening in a video recording. Semyon Sergeyev reported that the pressure was psychological in nature: at the assembly point in Kopeysk, he refused the contract, but during the train journey, he was again persuaded, and in the end, he signed the document.
