Stepan Kuzmenko, an oil worker from Nizhnevartovsk (Khanty–Mansi Autonomous Okrug—Yugra, Russia), who has been in a relationship with well-known blogger Aiza for a year, dispelled myths about the «paradise life» on Bali, where the couple has settled. He says many people arrive on the island expecting a pretty picture, unaware of local difficulties.

Stepan shared that on Bali you often have to go without water, and sometimes without electricity, with only a generator to help. For a long time the Yugra native tried to combat the high humidity in the house, but now he is used to it.

«Yes, there is mold here if you don’t ventilate and don’t use dehumidifiers».

Stepan said that on Bali, like everywhere else, there are traffic jams that tourists are often unprepared for.

«In a year I mastered all the bypass routes. It’s like learning a new game — at first it’s hard, then it becomes part of you».

The Yugra native also insisted that the belief that living on Bali is cheaper than in Russia is mistaken. But, he says, on the island you get a higher quality of life for the same amount.

«Here’s what’s important to understand: Bali is not always cheaper in rubles, sometimes it’s even more expensive. But the value of what you get here for your money is many times higher. Imagine: the same amount for housing, but instead of a view of the neighbor’s wall — rice terraces. Instead of supermarket products — the freshest fruit straight from the tree. Instead of a weekend at the mall — access to the ocean at any moment», — writes the Yugra native.

Kuzmenko notes that many myths circulate about life on Bali.

«All these beliefs that Bali is a perpetual vacation, that living here is cheap, that it’s only for hippies and bloggers — complete nonsense. The family format and business opportunities are ignored. And there are also false beliefs that there is no civilization here, no normal hospitals, banks, or internet. That all Balinese smile 24/7, that if you move, everything will instantly become perfect», — the young man said.
