Yakut Ivan Bopposov has completed a sculpture of the symbol of 2026, the Horse, which he molded from cow dung, known locally as balbakha. The folk craftsman placed it in his yard in the village of Uolba in the Tattinsky District. This was reported on January 27 in the Telegram channel «Ulus Media».
Ivan Bopposov is the brother of Mikhail Bopposov, a legend of Yakutia, who started sculpting in 1998 — back then he created a tank.
The tradition of molding figures in honor of the New Year began in December 2011, when Mikhail made a Dragon for the upcoming year. In December 2012, he molded a Snake. The sculptor«s imagination was always top-notch: he even created a family of monkeys on a palm tree, one of them holding a verse about the importance of dung, a plump mouse on a chair, and a rabbit beating a drum.
In 2021, Mikhail fell ill and stopped creating the beloved sculptures, but his brother picked up the tradition.
