Residents of Yaroslavl Oblast have been warned of anomalously cold weather at the end of January. The alert came on January 28 from the Ministry of Regional Security, the city administration, the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM), and via SMS from the Unified State System for Emergency Prevention and Response (RSChS).
The forecast stated: An anomalously cold weather is expected with average daily air temperatures 7-12 degrees below the climatic norm.
As previously explained by experts from the Fobos weather center, the weather in the region is influenced by an active cyclone that brought snowfalls to Central Russia.
According to the forecast of the Hydrometcenter of Russia, in Yaroslavl Oblast, air temperatures by the end of January will range from -10 to -22 degrees Celsius (14 to -8 degrees Fahrenheit).

Daily forecast:

  • January 29: cooling to -12°C (10°F) during the day, light wind.
  • January 30: -14°C (7°F).
  • January 31 and February 1: during the day -16…-18°C (3…0°F), at night -20…-22°C (-4…-8°F), snowfalls will begin.
  • February 2: during the day -12°C (10°F) with snow, at night -18°C (0°F).
During the frost period, according to EMERCOM, the risk of fires in housing and medical facilities increases, possible breaks in power and communication lines, disruptions in transport operation, and more frequent cases of hypothermia.
