Voronezh region under yellow alert for severe weather

A yellow level weather alert has been declared in the Voronezh region. This was reported by the Russian Hydrometeorological Center.

Forecasters have issued warnings for several hazardous phenomena. Specifically, until 18:00 on January 30, fog is expected in parts of the region. During the same period, ice and wet snow accumulation are also forecast. Moreover, from 06:00 on January 30 to 06:00 on January 31, heavy precipitation in the form of snow and icing are anticipated.

According to the regional Hydrometeorological Center«s forecast, the weather will deteriorate sharply in the coming days. On the night and day of January 30, the region will be cloudy with precipitation in the form of snow, wet snow, and rain. In northern areas, heavy snow is forecast during the day, and across the entire region — fog, ice, and wet snow accumulation. Temperatures in northern areas will be -5…-10°C (23…14°F) at night and -3…-8°C (27…18°F) during the day, while in southern areas, around 0…-5°C (32…23°F) at night and from -3°C to +2°C (27…36°F) during the day. In Voronezh, on this day, heavy snow, fog, ice, and wet snow accumulation are also expected with temperatures of -6…-8°C (21…18°F) and a north wind of 7-12 m/s.

The forecast for January 31 promises cloudy weather with precipitation, locally heavy, in the form of snow and wet snow at night and heavy snowfall during the day. A blizzard is also possible in the daytime. The wind will be northwesterly, 8-13 m/s, with gusts up to 16 m/s during the day. Overnight temperatures will drop to -8…-13°C (9…18°F) in the north, and -1…-6°C (21…30°F) in the south, while daytime temperatures will be -5…-10°C (18…27°F) in the north and 0…-5°C (32…23°F) in the south. In Voronezh, heavy snow with a blizzard is expected both night and day, with temperatures of -8…-10°C (14…18°F).

On February 1, cloudy weather with clear spells is forecast. Overnight, light to moderate snow and a blizzard are expected in places, while during the day, only light snow in some areas. The wind will be northerly, 8-13 m/s, with gusts up to 16 m/s at night. Temperatures will be -16…-21°C (-6…3°F) at night and -13…-18°C (0…9°F) during the day. In Voronezh, moderate snow and a blizzard are forecast at night, with light snow during the day. Temperatures will be -18…-20°C (-4…0°F) at night and -15…-17°C (1…5°F) during the day.

Additionally, drivers are warned about deteriorating conditions on the M-4 «Don» highway. Due to heavy snowfall, blizzards, and ice, motorists are advised to be extremely cautious, maintain distance, avoid sudden maneuvers, and if possible, postpone long trips in the coming days.
