Snowy and Warm February in Nizhny Novgorod Region

A forecast predicts heavy snowfall and above-average temperatures for February in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

Already today, January 23, 2026, by evening, temperatures in Nizhny Novgorod could drop to -25 degrees Celsius (-13°F).
In nighttime hours, thermometers in some parts of the region may show down to -30 degrees Celsius (-22°F). Due to difficult weather conditions, the company «Avtodor», which owns among other things the M-12 «Vostok» high-speed highway, has appealed to drivers to be more careful on the roads and refrain from traveling in bad weather.
According to weather forecasters, the cold period will last until Tuesday, January 27, after which the frost will begin to recede.
As for the forecast for the entire month of February, specialists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) of Nizhny Novgorod region, citing data from the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, expect that the month will be snowy but warm compared to long-term averages.
The average monthly air temperature is forecast to be around -6 to -9 degrees Celsius (21 to 16°F), which is one degree higher than the climatic norm of -7 to -10 degrees Celsius (19 to 14°F) for February in the region.
The amount of precipitation in February 2026 is likely to exceed long-term averages, with the monthly norm of 25-40 millimeters in Nizhny Novgorod region expected to be surpassed, according to meteorologists.
