Powerful Snowfalls to Blanket Central Russia

Experts from the Fobos meteorological center have warned of heavy snowfalls in Central Russia. In Moscow, snowfall could nearly double the daily record.

According to the forecast from the Fobos meteorological center, intense snowfalls will hit Central Russia. The peak of bad weather in Moscow is expected on January 27.

«Right now, the snowfall in the metropolis is peaking. According to model estimates, by the end of Tuesday, Moscow will receive more than 1/3 of the monthly precipitation volume — 19 mm. This is almost double the daily record for January 27, set in 1995,» reported Fobos.

Precipitation will be accompanied by a brief warming, but by Thursday, temperatures will start to drop again. «In Moscow, strong snowfalls will occur today and tomorrow, with possible snowdrifts on roads, and temperatures will approach the climatic norm: daytime up to −5…−6 °C (23…21 °F). And on Thursday, snow showers will weaken, and thermometer readings will creep down — by the end of January in the capital, −10…−12 °C (14…10 °F),» clarified forecasters.

Weather Forecast for Yaroslavl Region

According to data from the service «Weather 76.RU» and the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, the following weather is expected in the region:

  • January 28: night -15 °C (5 °F), overcast, light snow; day -13 °C (9 °F), precipitation persists.
  • January 29: night -14 °C (7 °F), overcast, snow; day -14 °C (7 °F), snowfall intensity will decrease.
  • January 30: night -19 °C (-2 °F), clear; day -20 °C (-4 °F), no precipitation.
  • January 31: night -24 °C (-11 °F), day -15 °C (5 °F), cloudy, possible brief light snow.
  • February 1: night -20 °C (-4 °F), cloudy, snow; day -14 °C (7 °F), precipitation will continue.
