Omsk Region endures coldest night of the year

The head of the Ob-Irtysh Hydrometeorological Center, Natalia Krivoruchko, reported on the minimum temperatures recorded in Omsk Region last night. According to meteorologists, the severest frosts were observed in the village of Vassiss (Tarsky District) at -41 degrees Celsius (-42°F) and in Sedelnikovo at -42 degrees Celsius (-44°F). This is the coldest night of the year so far.

In Omsk, thermometers recorded -34 degrees Celsius (-29°F). And according to a photo published by the newspaper «Siberian Toiler», it was almost -45 degrees Celsius (-49°F) in Sedelnikovo last night.
It was previously assumed that the frosty weather would last until January 25, but then the severe weather warning was extended to January 27.
«Tonight will be cold again. Across the region, temperatures are expected to be -30 to -35 degrees Celsius (-22 to -31°F), and in the north -35 to -41 degrees Celsius (-31 to -42°F). During the day on January 24, -25 to -30 degrees Celsius (-13 to -22°F). On the night of January 25, -33 to -38 degrees Celsius (-27 to -36°F), and during the day on January 25, -25 to -30 degrees Celsius (-13 to -22°F). We do not expect precipitation, but there may be haze and frost,» Krivoruchko said about the weather for the weekend.
According to the meteorologist, severe frosts will persist on January 26 and 27. During the day, temperatures will be -21 to -26 degrees Celsius (-6 to -15°F), and at night -25 to -30 degrees Celsius (-13 to -22°F). On Wednesday, a North Atlantic cyclone will approach Omsk Region, and it will warm up to -13 degrees Celsius (9°F) during the day. Snow will fall in the north. The period of severe frosts will end after that.
