Last night, a colorful northern lights display was visible in the north of the Tyumen Region. Green streaks lit up the sky in the areas of Surgut, Nizhnevartovsk, and other settlements of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.

According to social media reports, the atmospheric phenomenon was also visible beyond Yugra. It was also recorded in the Tomsk Region, near Yekaterinburg, in the Perm Krai, and in the Tobolsk District. According to local administration information, the aurora was noticed by residents of the village of Laitamak and the settlement of Nadtsy.
The aurora borealis is a large-scale natural phenomenon that occurs when charged particles from the solar wind collide with Earth«s atmosphere. The planet»s magnetic field directs these particles toward the poles, where they interact with gases, causing a glow. Oxygen produces green and red colors, while nitrogen yields blue and purple. The higher the solar activity, the brighter and farther south this spectacle spreads.
