Nizhny Novgorod snowbound, may get 26 cm more snow

For three days, Nizhny Novgorod has been under the sway of heavy snowfall. In the incomplete month of January, precipitation has reached 105 millimeters, which amounts to 211% of the average monthly norm of about 50 mm.
Overnight, the precipitation did not stop, and according to meteorologists, the bad weather will only intensify today. The snow cover is expected to grow by another 26 centimeters. At the same time, the air temperature will gradually drop.
«Overnight, active work was underway to clear snow, plow and treat roads. From early morning, the first shift of workers and equipment was back on duty. They continue to battle the abnormal snowfall,» the city hall reported.
Despite the intense snowfall, morning traffic jams in the city today were less severe than on January 27 and 28. On those days, during rush hour, traffic jams reached the maximum rating of 10 points.
On the eve, Nizhny Novgorod Mayor Yury Shalabayev personally took to the roads to assess the situation during the period when most residents were returning from work.
