Nizhny Novgorod buried in record snowfall, more snow expected

Snow continues to fall heavily in Nizhny Novgorod, blanketing the city streets.
A heavy snowfall has been continuing for the third day in Nizhny Novgorod. A record 211% of the January precipitation norm has fallen in less than a full month. This amounts to 105 mm against a norm of about 50, according to the city administration press service.
Overnight, the snowfall in the Volga region capital did not cease. According to weather forecasters, the bad weather will only intensify. Today, snow cover could increase by another 26 cm. Meanwhile, air temperatures will gradually drop.
“Overnight, active work was underway to remove snow, clear and treat roads. From early morning, the first shift of workers and equipment was back on duty. They continue to battle the abnormal snowfall,” the mayor«s office reported.
Despite the heavy snowfall, traffic jams in the city this morning were not as terrible as on January 27 and 28. Then, during peak hours, congestion reached a maximum score of 10 points.
The day before, Nizhny Novgorod Mayor Yuri Shalabayev said that he decided to personally assess the road situation during the snowfall, choosing a time when most residents are returning home. Read about how the trip went in this article.
