Spring-like temperatures and sunny weather will arrive in Kemerovo Oblast on the last weekend of January. The biting frosts that have held the region since the beginning of the month will finally give way to warmth, but not for long, according to the forecast from the West Siberian Hydrometeorological Service.
The long-awaited warming will return to Kuzbass on Friday, January 29. The thermometer will rise to -11… -16 degrees Celsius (12… 3 degrees Fahrenheit), with some areas reaching -4… -9 degrees Celsius (25… 16 degrees Fahrenheit). In the north of the region, pleasant temperatures will arrive along with snowfalls and local fogs.
In some parts of the oblast, there may also be light snow, but black ice will definitely persist on the roads. Gusts of south-west wind will reach an average of 3–8 meters per second, with some areas up to 14.
With the onset of dusk, the air will cool to -12… -17 degrees Celsius (10… 1 degrees Fahrenheit), with some areas down to -22 degrees Celsius (-8 degrees Fahrenheit). Snow will continue to fall by the night of January 30, but during the day precipitation will cease at least until the end of the weekend.
Despite the strengthening wind, during the day in Kuzbass it will warm up even more: to -4… -9 degrees Celsius (25… 16 degrees Fahrenheit), with some areas at -14 degrees Celsius (7 degrees Fahrenheit).
On the night to Sunday, January 31, the thermometer will again show from -12 to -17 degrees Celsius (10 to 1 degrees Fahrenheit). Only in some cities and villages will the mercury drop below -20 degrees Celsius (-4 degrees Fahrenheit).
Along with the southern wind, during the day spring-like temperatures will come to the region: -2… -7 degrees Celsius (28… 19 degrees Fahrenheit), with some areas at -12 degrees Celsius (10 degrees Fahrenheit).
While abnormal frosts persisted in Kuzbass, residents of several cities also suffered from a suffocating smell and a white veil on the streets. Smog has not left the regional capital for exactly two weeks.
City residents have accused the industrial zone of poisoning the air, but one of the plants denies this.
