Kuban braces for severe frosts 10°C below normal

A significant temperature rise is expected in the region by the weekend.
An anticyclone will influence the weather in Krasnodar Krai on 20 January. According to Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Fobos weather center, the region will see variable cloudiness, with daytime temperatures 10°C (50°F) below the climatic norm. Morning fog is possible. Thermometers will show -6…-8°C (21…18°F).
Forecasters from the regional hydrometeorological center reported that there will be ice on the roads. Precipitation is mostly absent. On the Black Sea coast, a strong wind will blow with gusts of 15-20 m/s, and in the Novorossiysk area — 30-34 m/s. Temperatures by the sea will range from -3…+2°C (27…36°F), but it may feel colder due to the wind. The lowest temperatures are traditionally in the mountains — -7…-12°C (19…10°F) during the day.
In Krasnodar, it will be -7°C (19°F), but will feel like -12°C (10°F). Already on Wednesday, 21 January, it will warm up sharply to 0°C (32°F), and by the end of the week temperatures will reach -1°C (30°F). Rain will replace snowfall.
