Irkutsk Weekend Forecast: Meteorologists Predict Respite from Cold

Finally, the Epiphany frosts in Irkutsk have completely retreated. Moreover, this weekend it will warm up so much that one can even go for a walk. The forecast was shared with a journalist from «IrCity» by the head of the Irkutsk Hydrometeorological Center, Yulia Yankova.

«Minimum temperatures recorded in the vicinity of Irkutsk and nearby cities reached −45 degrees Celsius (−49°F). However, last night it warmed up significantly, in Irkutsk and Shelekhov it was up to −26°C (−15°F). Daytime temperatures were also much higher: instead of −30°C (−22°F), it warmed up to −20°C (−4°F),» noted the interlocutor.

Therefore, in the next three days, we can expect fairly favorable weather. Tonight in the capital of the Angara region — up to −28°C (−18°F), and during the day on Saturday — around −15 to −17°C (5 to 1°F). No precipitation is expected on January 24.

However, on Sunday, snowfalls are expected in the central, southern, and western regions. The cause is a warm air mass from a cyclone that will pass through areas of Mongolia. In Irkutsk on January 25, intense snow will fall. It will start at night and intensify during the day on Sunday.

«Due to cloudy weather, temperatures will be up to −17 to −19°C (1 to −2°F) at night and up to −13 to −15°C (9 to 5°F) during the day. The snowfall will continue into Monday night, and on January 26 during the day, the snow will stop. At night, it will be up to −21 to −23°C (−6 to −9°F), during the day the same −13 to −15°C (9 to 5°F). We»ve been given a respite,« noted Yulia Yankova.

Meanwhile, in the northern districts of Irkutsk Oblast, on the contrary, it will get colder. At night, they forecast up to −42 to −47°C (−44 to −53°F), and during the day from −30 to −35°C (−22 to −31°F). This, by the way, will be below normal. However, in Irkutsk and most parts of Irkutsk Oblast, the average daily air temperatures will be above the climatic norm.
