Heavy Snowfall in Yekaterinburg: When Will It End?

On the morning of January 29, Yekaterinburg came under the influence of heavy snowfall, which rescue services and meteorologists had warned about earlier. According to Yandex Pogoda (Yandex Weather), precipitation may not cease until 7:00 p.m., and some forecasts indicate the possibility of snowfall over the next several days.
The Ural Hydrometeorological Center reports a likelihood of blizzards and snowdrifts outside the city. In Yekaterinburg itself, light snow is expected on January 30 and 31. Meanwhile, air temperatures will remain relatively high, around -3 degrees Celsius (27°F).
Meteorologist Alexei Pulin, author of the Telegram channel «Pogoda v Yekaterinburge» (Weather in Yekaterinburg), links the current precipitation to a wave cyclone. «The main precipitation, associated with a quasi-stationary front, will pass to the west of the Ural Mountains, in the Pre-Urals, the Volga region, and in the center of the European part of the country,» explained Alexei Pulin. «Along the front, a wave cyclone is moving from west to east, and as it passes, the intensity of snowfall increases. In the forward part of the cyclone, the quasi-stationary front shifts somewhat to the north.»
