On the morning of January 29, Yekaterinburg was hit by a heavy snowfall, which rescuers and forecasters had warned about. According to Yandex Weather, precipitation will not stop until 7:00 PM, and may even continue for several more days.

According to the forecast from the Ural Hydrometeorological Center, a blizzard is expected outside Yekaterinburg, and people should be prepared for snowdrifts. However, in the city, light snow will continue for two more days — January 30 and 31. But it is warm outside, with temperatures hovering around -3°C (27°F).

Meteorology expert and author of the Telegram channel «Weather in Yekaterinburg» Alexey Pulina suggests that the snow is brought by a wave cyclone.

«The main precipitation, associated with a quasi-stationary front, will pass to the west of the Ural Mountains, in the Pre-Urals, the Volga region, and in the center of the European part of the country,» explained Alexey Pulina. «Along the front, from west to east, a wave cyclone is moving, and as it passes, the intensity of snowfall increases. In the front part of the cyclone, the quasi-stationary front shifts somewhat to the north.»
