Forecasters predict February weather for Yakutsk as cold returns
Meteorologist Sargylana Nikitina outlines the weather outlook for Yakutsk residents in the coming days.
The last days of January in Yakutsk will see warm and sunny weather without precipitation or wind. However, after the weekend with the arrival of February, the city will be enveloped in fog and frost again. This was reported by meteorologist Sargylana Nikitina of the Yakutsk Hydrometeorological Center to 14.RU.
Saturday
In the next 24 hours in Yakutsk, the weather will be mostly dry with light winds. Overnight temperatures will range from -35 to -37 °C (-31 to -35 °F), while daytime highs will be -28 to -30 °C (-18 to -22 °F). The sun will still be shining, making it safe to go for a walk.
Sunday
On Sunday, February 1, temperatures are expected to drop in Yakutsk. Overnight, it will be -39 °C (-38 °F), and during the day, the thermometer will fall to -32 °C (-26 °F).
Monday
«On Monday, February 2, the weather will be mostly dry with fog in some areas. Overnight temperatures will be from -38 to -40 °C (-36 to -40 °F), and during the day, -32 to -34 °C (-26 to -29 °F). We are starting to see a cold snap, but February is a winter month. Next week, there will be fewer sunny days,» reported meteorologist Sargylana Nikitina.
According to her, the past two weeks in Yakutsk have seen warm weather due to an anticyclone, resulting in clear, dry days. With the minimum temperature dropping to -38 °C (-36 °F) at night, fog is expected in the mornings.
In the nearby uluses (districts of Yakutia), no sharp cold snaps or stormy winds are forecast for this weekend.
