A regime of unfavorable meteorological conditions has been declared in Perm Krai. This means that harmful impurities will accumulate in the air, and haze may appear over the city.

The Perm Hydrometeorological Center reported that from January 22 to 25, pollutants may accumulate in the surface layer of the atmosphere in Perm Krai. From 17:00 on January 22 to 12:00 on January 24, a regime of unfavorable meteorological conditions of the first degree of danger has been declared almost throughout the krai. From 12:00 on January 24 to 11:00 on January 25, these conditions are expected in the southern districts of Perm Krai.

As Andrey Shikhov, a doctor of geographical sciences, told 59.RU, this means that harmful impurities are accumulating in the surface layer, for example, emissions from cars. This is facilitated by windless weather and temperature inversion, that is, an increase in temperature with height.

«Because the temperature near the ground is below -30 °C (-22 °F), and at a height of 1.5 kilometers it»s only -16 to -18 °C (3 to 0 °F), all emissions accumulate near the ground. By the way, for winter, it«s a common situation, last week was the same,» the scientist explained to 59.RU. «It won»t be exactly smog; under current conditions, it«s more like frosty fog with elements of smog. There won»t be real smog like in October 2024.«

Andrey Shikhov clarifies that during the day, the air in Perm will warm up to a maximum of -23 °C (-9 °F).

Earlier we reported whether the frost will linger over the weekend in Perm Krai.
