Cold Spell to Ease by End of January, Forecasters Say

The third decade of January will be cold with almost no precipitation in the Novosibirsk Region, according to the West Siberian Hydrometeorological Service.

In the third decade of January, the average air temperature in the Novosibirsk Region will be -17…-23°C (1…-9°F), which is 1–4 degrees below the norm. This was reported to an NGS.RU correspondent by the West Siberian Hydrometeorological Service (WSHMS).

«The prevailing temperature range at night is expected to be -21…-26°C (-6…-15°F), dropping to -36°C (-33°F) during clear spells. In the middle of the decade, temperatures could reach -40°C (-40°F). During the day, it will be -18…-24°C (0…-11°F), with localized drops to -30°C (-22°F),» explained Natalya Kichanova, head of the weather forecast department at the WSHMS.

A weakening of the cold spell is expected towards the end of the decade. Snow is forecast for certain days of the decade: January 21-22 and around January 25.

In the coming days, temperatures as low as -40°C (-40°F) are expected in the Novosibirsk Region.
