Chelyabinsk Saw a Crimson Sunset on January 28

On the evening of Wednesday, January 28, the sky over Chelyabinsk turned crimson and pink, astounding local residents with its intensity. Many townspeople couldn«t resist capturing the scene and publishing the photos on social media.

According to forecasters at the Chelyabinsk Hydrometeorological Center, such bright sunsets often herald a change in weather. The next day, January 29, a slight warming is expected in the region. Nighttime temperatures across the oblast will range from –10… –15 °C (14 to 5 °F), and in lowlands the thermometer may drop to –18 °C (–0.4 °F). During the day, temperatures are forecast to be –3… –8 °C (26.6 to 17.6 °F). In Chelyabinsk, it will be around –12 °C (10.4 °F) at night, and the air will warm up to –3 °C (26.6 °F) during the day. The weather will remain cloudy, and in the extreme north of the oblast, light snow and blizzards are possible.

This is not the first unusual atmospheric phenomenon in the city this month. In mid-January, during a period of severe frosts, a bright rainbow was observed over Chelyabinsk.
