Powerful snowfalls are expected in Central Russia, according to experts from the Phobos center. They report that snowfall will hit Moscow on January 27.

“Right now, the snowfall in the metropolis is peaking. According to model estimates, by the end of Tuesday, more than one-third of the monthly precipitation volume—19 mm—will fall in Moscow. This almost doubles the daily record for January 27, set in 1995,” Phobos said.

At the same time, warming will accompany the snowfall. However, in the second half of the week, thermometer readings will drop again.

“In Moscow today and tomorrow, heavy snowfalls will occur, with possible drifts on roads, and temperatures will approach the climatic norm: up to −5…−6 °C (21-23 °F) during the day. On Thursday, snow showers will weaken and temperatures will fall—by the end of January, −10…−12 °C (10-14 °F) in the capital,” Phobos said.
