Anomalous Frosts to Persist in Chelyabinsk Region

Anomalously frosty weather will persist in the Southern Urals over the weekend and at the beginning of next week, the regional hydrometeorological center reported on Friday, January 23. At night, air temperatures will drop to -36…-40 °C (-33…-40 °F).

«In the coming days, the territory of Chelyabinsk Oblast remains under the influence of a ridge of the Siberian anticyclone,» meteorologists explained. «Anomalously cold and frosty weather will still persist, with no significant precipitation expected.»

The coming night in Chelyabinsk is forecast to have -30…-32 °C (-22…-26 °F), with daytime temperatures on January 24 expected to be -21…-23 °C (-6…-9 °F). Across the region, nighttime temperatures will be -28…-33 °C (-18…-27 °F), dropping to -40 °C (-40 °F) in low-lying areas; daytime temperatures will be -19…-24 °C (-2…-11 °F), with lows down to -30 °C (-22 °F) in depressions.
On the night into Sunday, Chelyabinsk is expected to see -30…-32 °C (-22…-26 °F), with daytime temperatures of -19…-21 °C (-2…-6 °F). Across the region, nighttime temperatures will be -27…-32 °C (-17…-26 °F), dropping to -37 °C (-35 °F) in the south; daytime temperatures will be -16…-21 °C (3…-6 °F), with -21…-26 °C (-6…-15 °F) in the southern parts.
On the night into Monday, Chelyabinsk will have -30…-32 °C (-22…-26 °F), with daytime temperatures of -18…-20 °C (0…-4 °F). Across the region, nighttime temperatures will be -27…-32 °C (-17…-26 °F), falling to -36 °C (-33 °F) in low-lying areas; daytime temperatures in the northern half of the region will be -16…-21 °C (3…-6 °F), and in the southern half -19…-24 °C (-2…-11 °F).
