Anomalous Frost to Settle in Saratov Region for Several Days

The Russian Emergencies Ministry (MChS) for Saratov Oblast has issued a warning about abnormally cold weather. From January 23 to 27, 2026, in the region, including Saratov, severe frosts are expected with average daily air temperatures 9 or more degrees below the climatic norm.
According to the forecast for January 23, at night, thermometer readings will drop to -19…-24 °C (-2…-11 °F), during the day — to -11…-16 °C (12…3 °F). The weather will be cloudy with clearings, with possible light snow, frost, and fog in some areas.
Rescuers issued a number of recommendations for the population:
Try not to go outside without urgent need and do not let children go for walks;
Dress warmly to avoid hypothermia and frostbite;
Strictly observe fire safety rules when using heaters and stoves, do not leave them unattended, and do not overload electrical networks;
Drivers should observe traffic rules, speed limits, and if possible, avoid long trips.
MChS also warns of an increased likelihood of incidents. Due to the frost and worn-out infrastructure, emergency shutdowns in the housing and utilities sector are possible. On the roads, an increase in traffic accidents and difficulty in movement are forecast due to weather conditions (fog, frost) and the condition of the road surface.
