The fourth bridge in Novosibirsk was opened before being put into operation, and while construction work is ongoing, the speed limit of 40 kilometers per hour will be maintained. Regional Transport Minister Anatoly Kostylevsky spoke about this at a meeting in the legislative assembly.

On January 20, the Committee on Transport, Industrial, and Information Policy of the Regional Legislative Assembly considered the issue of possibly lifting speed restrictions on the fourth bridge, which had been raised by public activists.

In response to the request to review the speed regime on the new bridge crossing, Anatoly Kostylevsky reminded that the facility is still under construction.

‘Let me remind you once more that this is open traffic on a construction site, as the work is not yet finished. Construction will take place in different areas, so the 40 km/h limit is in place because roadwork will be ongoing. Unfortunately, these signs are necessary for safety. Sadly, road workers die every year, even with many warning signs,’ he stressed.

Due to the fact that Part 1 of Article 12.9 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation has lost force and exceeding the speed limit by less than 20 kilometers per hour is no longer penalized, the maximum speed on the bridge should not exceed 60 kilometers per hour. Speed compliance will be monitored by cameras.

On December 28, NGS wrote about what causes, besides the opening of the new bridge, traffic jams in the city.
