Heavy Snowfall Closes Perm Highway, Stranding Drivers

The traffic police (GIBDD) have warned residents of Sverdlovsk Oblast that traveling to Perm is not advisable now. Due to heavy snowfall on the highway (in Perm Krai), traffic has been temporarily closed for all types of transport on the following sections of the Kostroma – Sharya – Kirov – Perm road:
on the approach to the city of Izhevsk (M-12 «Vostok»): section from 0 km to 86+546 km.
on the approach to the settlement of Achit (M-12 «Vostok»): section from 9+154 km to 160+387 km.
on the main route R-243: section from 1027+524 km to 1107+715 km.
Currently, there is a blizzard, black ice, and snow drifts on the road.
«Due to the traffic restrictions, the Sverdlovsk Oblast State Traffic Inspectorate strongly advises completely refraining from trips to Perm Krai on the specified highways until the restrictions are lifted. Drivers whose routes pass through neighboring regions are recommended to check the current road situation before departure and exercise increased caution in adverse weather conditions,» noted the traffic police.
Earlier in the day, drivers reported multi-hour traffic jams on the Perm Highway.
