In the Trans-Urals, the number of fatal traffic accidents increased by 18% over the year, with 123 people killed in these crashes. Every second fatal accident occurred on federal highways. This was reported at a press conference by Yuri Filipchuk, head of the traffic police department for Kurgan region. Meanwhile, the total number of accidents decreased by 8% over the year, and the number of injured dropped by 10%.

The most problematic period was the start of winter — in December, 20 people died in accidents. The highest number of fatal accidents were in Kurgan, Ketovsky, and Shadrinsky districts. The culprits of such accidents were most often drivers, who crossed into oncoming lanes, chose incorrect speeds, and failed to yield the right of way.
To improve the accident situation, the construction of barrier fencing to separate oncoming traffic flows and the installation of four lanes for traffic will help, noted Filipchuk.
