At the entrance to the parking lot of the Almaz trade and entertainment complex in Chelyabinsk, a cargo vehicle damaged a restrictive barrier, after which many drivers began entering the area via the pedestrian sidewalk, violating traffic rules.
The incident occurred on January 19 from the side of Yeniseyskaya Street. The truck, exceeding the permissible height of 2.7 meters (8.9 ft), knocked down the structure that was supposed to block passage for large vehicles. Seeing the blocked usual route, motorists did not look for alternative entrances but began driving onto the sidewalk via a lowered curb in the pedestrian crossing area.
‘There are at least two more entrances, but drivers are going through the lowered curb at the pedestrian crossing,’ an eyewitness to the situation reported on January 20.
The Chelyabinsk State Traffic Inspectorate explained that the arrangement of the parking area falls under the competence of the TEC administration, since the territory is private property. The installation and dismantling of the barrier were carried out without the involvement of the department. At the same time, the traffic police assured that video materials with violations have been studied and preventive work will be organized in this area to stop non-compliance with traffic rules.
