Arkhangelsk Airport Reconstruction Resumes, No Closure in 2026

Arkhangelsk airport will not close during the new phase of reconstruction in 2026. This was reported to 29.RU by the Government of Arkhangelsk Oblast.
In 2023, when large-scale work was carried out on this territory, all planes took off and landed at Vaskovo airport. This time, relocation will not be necessary.
«According to the Ministry of Transport, work will be carried out in stages, taking into account that planes will depart on time. Closure will not be required», — explained 29.RU in the press service of the Government of Arkhangelsk Oblast.
Recall that Arkhangelsk airport was reconstructed in 2023, with the company Rostransmodernizatsiya as the client for the work. As a result, 110,000 square meters of pavement were replaced on the runway, and in 2024, a new passenger terminal — pavilion No. 2 — was put into operation using operator funds.
Even before the completion of the work, news emerged that during the design of the facility money had gone missing. It was reported that the budget suffered damage of 7.3 million rubles (approximately $73,000 at current rates). A criminal case was initiated under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — fraud committed on a particularly large scale.
In 2025, at the airport, the asphalt collapsed under one of the planes. Then the regional government explained to 29.RU that this situation was in no way related to the past reconstruction.
